This past weekend we held our annual FCA Victory Banquet. At the banquet we shared about all that God is doing with our various ministries of FCA. Erin and I wanted to share with you all two of the videos that were shown at our Banquet. The first video shares testimonies of a couple of athletes and a coach at UK about how God has used FCA to impact them. The second video has testimonies of coaches and athletes in our high and middle school ministries sharing about how the have been impacted by FCA camps, coaches ministry, campus ministry, and community ministries. We hope you enjoy these videos and find them informative. If you have any questions about anything you see or how you can partner with us, please let us know!
It’s been two weeks since our last since our last ministry update, and I (Andy) am still not sure I am fully awake! On October 30th the Lee County Recreational Center held our annual Fall Teen Lock-In outreach. We were blessed to have over 136 teens and adults who came out for a great night of games, karaoke, bowling, and much more! Halfway through the night we stopped all the activity and after a skit from some staff and volunteers, KMM missionary Daniel McIntosh gave a devotion to the teens. Daniel did a great job of sharing with the students about how Jesus is the ultimate friend. While no students made decisions we did have several conversations with students and one student even prayed with another staff member. We know God was working in the hearts of many of our students, and ask you to keep praying that the seeds that were planted at the Lock-In will be watered and grow.
Our After School Jr. Bowling League has been going great. Our daughter Maeven has loved being able to participate this season and is not only becoming quite the bowler is making friends! I (Andy) had the opportunity to share a devotion with the students last week about how Jesus is omnipresent and as believers they can always trust He will be there for them. I also was able to share with the students that don’t know Jesus that they too can depend can call out and believe in Jesus today!
Our FCA Huddles at the Lee County High and Middle Schools have been going great and we have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with the students right in the public schools. We had planned to take a group of students to FCA’s Weekend of Champions this past weekend, but the event was cancelled. So instead of going last weekend, this Saturday night we are having as many of our students as want to over to our house for a UK Basketball game and popcorn night. Even though is not the event we had hoped to take our students to, we love having them over to our house for the opportunity to build relationships and find out more of what is going on in their lives.
Tonight, Erin is starting back the Well Ministry for mothers and caretakers of young children. Erin has been blessed by all the interest from some of the mom’s she has worked with in the past as well as some new ladies. While we are not able to offer child care presently, the ladies are still coming out to Youth Haven for a night of food, fellowship and Bible study! Please pray for Erin and all the ladies involved in this much needed ministry.
Maeven and Judah are doing great and really enjoying all their fall activities. They were able to attend both a Fall Harvest Party at Andy’s parents church and a Trunk or Treat outreach at Erin’s parents church. This past weekend we had the opportunity to go as a family and watch the Peanuts Movie. It was great to just sit their in the theater and see the smiles on our sweet kids’ faces.
The next few weeks keep up a pretty hectic pace with bowling leagues, high school bowling team matches, FCA events, and much more. Please keep us in your prayers and thank you so much for your faithful partnership in serving God!
Greetings from Beattyville. Thank you for checking in to see how ministry here in Southeastern Kentucky is going and for all your prayers and support!
This week has been a week full of FCA activities. In all of our clubs this week we were able to share the Gospel through sharing testimonies of athletes and their relationships with Christ. The athletes share their stories of their walks with Christ and then challenged the students to make the decision to follow Christ as well. We also had our monthly club day at LCHS this Friday and during two club periods we were able to share the Gospel again and many of these students don’t regularly attend church. Please pray that the seeds that were sown this week will take root and that we will see these students come to know Christ!
At the Rec Center our Bowling League outreaches are continuing to grow. We had almost 50 students out for our after school bowling outreach. Our Men’s bowling league also added more bowlers this week and we had some school groups out to bowl which was great for the Rec Center.
On Monday we are going to be celebrating Maeven’s 3 year birthday. It’s hard to believe we have had our sweet baby girl for three years already. She’s super excited that she got a big girl bed already for her birthday. Judah has also love Maeven’s new bed as he can bounce up and down on it.
We would like to ask you to be praying for Andy’s Aunt Anna and all our family. She has been battling cancer for many years and now the cancer has spread throughout her entire body. Unless there is a miracle it doesn’t look like she will be with us much longer. Our family is truly thankful though that she knows Christ as her personal savior and will soon be with Him. Please pray that she will have peace and comfort. Also, be praying for her many family members that don’t know Christ that through this time they will see her awesome testimony and come to know Christ as well. Please pray for all our family through this difficult time.
Thank you so much for your continued support and prayers.
Our fall ministry schedule is off and full steam ahead. This past week was awesome as God has continued to bless. All of our FCA huddles and Bible studies continued to grow. I had the opportunity to speak our huddles about how God loves us Relentlessly and wants a relationship with us. In our after school Bible study we continued our study on what the Bible says about friendships, specifically diving into how cliques and favoritism hurt our testimonies with those around us. Getting interaction with the students and feedback has been great and we are truly excited to see how they are going to grow this year!
At the Rec Center, all our leagues are now into full swing. On Monday, last week 63 students came out for our after school jr. Bowling outreach. I spent most of the league helping a group of k through 3rd graders learn to bowl and especially one little girl who couldn’t even carry her own bowling ball. It was great getting to know the students and seeing how they smiled
even knocking over just one pin. Many parents and grandparents were in the Rec Center to see their kids, giving us another great ministry opportunity.
This week is going to be extremely busy as all our outreaches and ministries are going and at the same time we are a bit short on staff. That being said, it will be a great time of ministry, but much prayer and energy will be needed as well. Please pray for our family as we are apart more this week. Pray for Erin as she balances ministry and our ever more adventurous kids. Pray for myself that God will bring about divine appointments to share Him this week, for quality times with our family, and for energy and strength for whatever the week may bring. Our other bowling leagues are in full swing and are doing great. We do have room for more bowlers though, so if you know anyone in our area who would be interested, please let us know.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support!
Greetings from Beattyville! I want to start out by saying a big thank you for your prayers this past week as many of the ministries we are involved in kicked off. There were lots of early mornings and lots of days where extra energy was needed. We definitely needed and felt your prayers, so once again thank you!
Our FCA Huddles kicking off were the biggest events of the week. Our Tuesday morning FCA Huddle at the high school had 12 students and 31 students came out to our middle school huddle. In both huddles the students were excited about FCA and all said they would bring more friends next week! On Thursday we had our second FCA after school Bible study and 5 students joined us for this weeks study on what the Bible says about making friends. It was exciting to be able to dive deeper into the Bible with them.
Thursday night, Erin and some of the other KMM missionary ladies kicked off the first meeting of The Well for this fall. Seven local mothers came out and joined in for a fun night of fellowship, food, crafts, and a devotional Erin shared. This ministry is designed to encourage the local mothers of young children. When Maeven was born Erin really saw first hand how as a mom you can feel alone in our area. Out of that The Well was born to help show these mother’s they are not a lone and give them some Godly support and encouragement, as well as just letting them meet other mom’s going through the same issues as they are!
At the Rec Center this past week we started our 2013/2014 Winter Bowling Leagues. We have leagues running every weeknight, except Wednesday, and it was exciting to get things rolling. I (Andy) am participating in the Men’s bowling league on Thursday nights and we currently have 40 men participating in this league. Pray that these league will lead to opportunities to share Jesus!
This coming week things are continuing to get busy. On Monday afternoon, we start our After School Jr. Bowling League. This league is for all students kindergarten through 12th grade. We pick the students up at their schools and take them to the Rec Center on a YHBC bus. There the students get two games of bowling, coaching and tips, two slices of pizza, and a drink. We in turn get the opportunity to build relationships with students and parents, where we can share the love of Christ and connect families to local churches. We are expecting over 60 students this first week. Please pray that this ministry will lead to many divine appointments and that we will have all the volunteer help that we need!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, thank you so very much for your prayers. We truly do appreciate and treasure them. Thank you!
Sorry for the slow posts lately thing have been really chaotic and I have fallen behind. At the Rec Center we are winding our winter bowling leagues down and in the next couple of weeks they will come to an end. It has been a blessing to see the joy that our younger bowlers get participating in the after school jr bowling league. Also since my last post we held a Pre-Teen Lock-In at the Rec Center where I had the opportunity to speak to the elementary age students and challenge them to be who God created and trust Him to meet all their needs.
Erin has been busy working on things for The Well ministry. This Tuesday the ladies are putting together a product showcase for the women of the community where several women involved with The Well that sell different home business will be displaying and telling about their products. They are also doing a basketball fundraiser this coming weekend to help raise needed funds for this ministry.
On Friday night, Andy attended the Beattyville Chamber of Commerce’s annual community dinner. At the dinner the Lee County Rec Center was awarded the award for Community Outreach of the Year. During his acceptance speech, Andy stressed that while we want to aid the fitness and recreational needs of our community our goal has and will always be to use this as a tool to share Jesus with our community. We were truly blessed that the Rec Center was recognized and want to be diligent to continue to reach our community for Christ!
Please keep us in your prayers this week and if there is anything we can pray about for you, please let us know!
