It’s that time of year again where we are gearing up for our annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser for the Lee County Recreational Center. Due to a variety of scheduling issues this year’s Tournament has been pushed back to June 18th. This will me my (Andy) last year running this event and I would love to have you come join us for a fun day of Golf and great food! Hope to see you there!
Greetings from Beattyville. As we get ready to enter the month of May lots of things are going on here that we wanted to bring you up to date on.
Things get busy this weekend with our annual Golf Scramble Fundraiser for the Lee County Recreational Center. This is by far the biggest fundraiser that we do each year. Please be praying this week for great weather and a great turn out for this event. Also, if you are in the area please come out and join us, even if you don’t golf. We will have plenty of hamburgers, hotdogs, and polish sausages at the Sag Hollow Golf Course in Booneville, KY from noon to 2pm on Saturday, May 9.
Our next big thing this month comes on Saturday, May 16, from 6pm to 10 pm. We are having a Pre-Teen Lock-In for students finishing 3rd Grade through finishing 6th Grade. At this event the students will get to do all the fun things our teens do at a typical all night lock-in, but only stay 4 hours. Please pray for me (Andy) as I will be sharing a devotion with the students. Pray that I will clearly communicate to them how much God loves them and pray that many students will come and hear about Christ.
At the end of the month on May 29 we are having our annual End of the School Year Teen-Lock-In for students finishing 7th Grade through students graduating high school. At this event Andy’s dad, William Owens, will be giving the devotional to the students. Please pray for him as he prepares and that this outreach will reach many students for Christ. Also, with it being the Friday before high school graduation our students will have many options for parties and places to be where they could get into a lot of trouble. Please pray that they will choose to join us instead.
Throughout May many other things are going on as well. We are wrapping up the end of the school year with our FCA Huddles at the high school and the middle school. Several of our students that we have had in FCA since their 6th grade year are graduating this year and so it’s a bit sad and exciting for us at the same time. Pray that they will stay strong in their relationship with Christ and that they would seek Him in all their future plans. Also be praying for us as we are working with a new group of students to be on our leadership team next year and to go to FCA Leadership Camp with us this summer. We have lots of fundraising to do and this camp will be a great experience for our students.
At the Lee County Rec Center we are wrapping up our Fall/Winter bowling leagues and getting ready to start our summer bowling leagues. In the summer things slow down usually at the Rec Center and so we really need a solid turnout for these summer leagues.
In family news, we have also been very busy. Maeven spent two nights a week in April taking swimming lessons and is a little fish who can’t wait for the camp pool to open in the next few weeks. Judah is progressing with his speech which is an answer to prayer. However, on May 11, we are taking him to Shriner’s Hospital in Lexington, KY to get his feet checked out. In April, Judah had some x-rays that showed he has some curvature in the bones in his feet. We are not sure what this means, whether he will have to wear corrective foot wear, or whether or not he will just grow out of it. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for Judah.
Erin is enjoying being able to get the kids outside to play more and has been working with our dogs as we prepare for two litters of puppies arriving in June. She is much improved in her health since last year, but still has days where her fibromyalgia flairs up and causes her severe discomfort. Pray that those days will be few and far between. I (Andy) have been enjoying being able to get out and do some yard work and do some grilling.
As always, thank you so much for your continued prayers for our family. We are entering another busy season and are so thankful for your partnership and encouragement!
Greetings from Beattyville. We hope that you and your family are enjoying spring as much as we are. Our family has been taking full advantage of the warmer weather getting yard work done, exploring our local state park, and area playgrounds too!
During the spring we are also busy trying to raise much needed funds for the Lee County Recreational Center. One of our biggest fundraisers each year is our annual golf scramble. This year we are moving our Golf fundraiser to a new golf course, Sag Hollow, in Booneville, KY. Moving our event gives us the opportunity to have plenty of carts available for our golfers and eliminates the need to split golfers up just to have enough carts. So, we are allowing golfers to bring their own teams this year! With having newer facilities and the ability to have more golfers we are raising our prices this year in order to have cash prizes for our winners and also raise more funds for the Lee County Rec. Center. If you would like to join us for this event please call and book your team today. Also check out the flyer that’s attached to this post for more info!
Another way that you can help support the ministries of Kentucky Mountain Mission is through amazon.com. Amazon is now offering a program called AmazonSmile where you can designate money with each purchase you make on amazon.com to a non-profit of your choice. KMM is now set up to be able to receive your donations, so please consider giving with your amazon.com purchases!
Until our next post, please keep praying for our family and all that God is doing here in Beattyville!
Greetings from Beattyville. As I write this I (Andy) am busy recovering from our Annual Rec Center Golf Scramble Fundraiser. While I am tired, recovery might be a little stretching the truth as we had a great event that God blessed. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for our golfers and all those who came to our cook out. God blessed with very generous golfers and sponsors for this year’s event, as well as many who gave of their time to come help out. Our number of golfers was a little lower this year, due to having to reschedule on a day where there were many thing happening, but God still blessed and we are thankful!
We are also very thankful to report on our fundraising for our FCA Leadership students to go to FCA Leadership Camp later this month. God has truly blessed and we have received enough funding through very generous family and friends so that all students and sponsors can go to camp! We have also been blessed working with our student in a weekly Bible study where we have been challenging them to be a true follower of Christ and not just a fan! The students have responded really well and we are so blessed by their growth.
This week we are gearing up for our annual end of School Teen Lock-In outreach on Friday night. We are expecting around 150 teens to come to this event. Please be praying that we will have plenty of chaperones, pray for our speaker as they prepare to talk to the students, pray that our staff will have great interaction that leads to the Gospel, and finally pray that students will decide to commit to trust in Christ!
Our family is doing great. We were blessed to spend Memorial Day weekend in Tennessee with Andy’s grandparents, mom and dad, sister, and aunts and uncles. The kids loved spending time with everyone and especially enjoyed getting to go to the aquarium. Both kids are also getting excited for camp at YHBC to start in about 2 weeks.
As always thank you so much for your continued prayers and support!
Greetings from the Owens Family. Since our last update much has been happening and not happening!
Last week we wrapped up our After School Jr. Bowling League for the year. We had an awards ceremony where all the kids received various awards for their participation and accomplishments throughout the year. I (Andy) was able to talk to the kids and share with them about how much Jesus loved them and also to talk with them about us helping to find them a local church if they aren’t attending one. Pray with us that seeds planted this school year will lead to these students putting their faith in Christ!
For the past few weeks we have been working gathering donations and planning our annual Lee County Recreational Center Golf Scramble. Unfortunately, this past weekend we had so much rain that we had to postpone the scramble until May 31st. Please pray that this postponement, will turn out to be a blessing where we can have more participation and raise more funds that are much needed for the Recreational Center!
This past week, I began working on some grants to help raise funds for the some upcoming programs that we hope to begin this fall at the Rec Center. To be honest sometimes I feel like I am in a little over my head when it comes to grant writing. That being said, God blessed and I was actually able finish one grant this week and submit it. Please pray that God will continue to lead us to grant foundations that will help further the ministry here and also that He will continue to give me the perseverance to write the grants correctly!
We have also began working with our FCA Leadership team on a weekly Bible study. We are currently doing the “Not a Fan” study for teens. So far we have really enjoyed going deeper with our teens and challenging them to take a deeper look at their relationship with Christ. Are they fans of Christ or true followers? Please pray that they will grow in their faith and pray for Erin and I as week seek to disciple them.
Our family is doing well and Maeven and Judah are really enjoying the warm weather. They have already enjoyed several trips to play in the creek at Natural Bridge State Park and love making a water slide on their swing set. Erin is continuing to do well and making great improvements in her health since going gluten free.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support of our family!
Greetings to you and your family as we are celebrating the Resurrection of our wonderful Lord and Savior today! We hope that you will have or have had (depending on when you read this) a blessed day praising, worshipping, and giving much thanks to God today!
Our family is doing very well and the kids have had have been going egg crazy. For the past two weeks they have been dying and eating eggs and getting even enjoying wearing their bunny ears! We have also been blessed to read with them at night before bed and share about how much Jesus loves them and what Easter is all about. Both of them got to attend a great egg hunt and children’s outreach that Erin’s Parents’ church put on yesterday where they hunted eggs and then heard a great devotion too.
This past week we enjoyed great turn outs for our weekly FCA Huddles at the Lee County Middle and High schools. Andy was able to share with the teens about how Christ’s resurrection should be something that excites them and causes them to want to share it with all they come in contact with! We also have begun raising funds for our students to go to FCA Leadership Camp at Campbellsville University again this summer. Please pray for us as we need to raise around $2,200 to pay for camp fees and transportation costs for students and chaperones. Pray that God would show you if you could possibly partner with us financially in taking students to camp!
At the Rec Center our winter bowling leagues are starting to wind down in the next few weeks. Please pray with us that most of our bowlers will stay with us and bowl in summer leagues. Without their commitment it makes finances to run the Rec Center much tougher to get in the summer time.
Also, please be praying for us as we are getting ready to have our Annual Golf Scramble Fundraiser for the Rec Center on May 10th. We are looking for sponsors to help sponsor holes at this event and we also need golfers and golf carts too! Another prayer request for this event is that we will have nice weather for a great turnout!
This past Friday, Andy had the opportunity to participate in the West Irvine Elementary career day. This is the elementary school where Andy’s sister Amanda teaches and their he had the opportunity to share with the kids about helping in their communities and public service. While sharing about these issues, He was able to tell the kids all about the ministries of Kentucky Mountain Mission. Especially those about The Lee County Recreational Center and Youth Haven Bible Camp. The kids seemed to enjoy the presentations and several said they are coming to camp this summer and hope to come bowl with us soon!
In the upcoming weeks we are going to be busy preparing for fundraisers and summer events at the Rec Center. Pray for Andy as he prepares to share the Gospel with our Jr. Bowling League students on the last night of that league. Pray for wisdom in planning summer ministries. And please pray that we will have much needed help/staff at the Rec Center this summer!
God is truly working here and we thank you for your partnership in our these ministries!
I am happy to report that we survived and thrived at another annual Rec Center Golf Scramble! Yesterday, we held our annual golf scramble after having to cancel our original date due to bad weather. This time, however, we were blessed with beautiful weather and a great turn out as 23 golfers came out. Several more people came out to join us for delicious lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, polish sausages, and a lot of delicious desserts that were donated. It looks like after all bills are paid for this event that the Rec Center will have made between $1,500 and $1,600 to help add some much needed funding! If you are reading this blog post and participated in our scramble, sponsored our event, brought food, helped clean up, prayed for us, or anything else, I thank you so much for your support!
This week we were once again blessed with several beautiful days and nights. As a family we have loved being able to take advantage of this weather. The kids love playing outside in their kiddie pool and sandbox, playing on their swing set and going to the park. One of Maeven’s favorite things to do has been to go on a family walk in the evening to see our neighbor’s goat farm. She is constantly saying, “Daddy, Momma, go see goats!” Judah just loves going out and exploring. We have to keep a close eye on him as he will take off in a flash!
This week is going to have a lot going on. Erin and the kids are going to meet with some supporters at the beginning of the week and next Sunday we will be sharing at a new church about our ministry here with KMM. At Youth Haven Bible Camp summer staff orientation is taking place and one of the fun things we get to do is host all the jr. staff at the Rec Center for a bowling/team building outing. Please pray for traveling safety for our family, that we will be able to make new contacts for ministry partnerships and financial support, and pray for the Rec Center ministry opportunities. As always, thank you for your faithfulness!
