Hey Everyone, Erin and I are excited to share with you a new journey we are on with FCA. As you know I (Andy) have been an FCA Area Representative for the past two years with the Central Kentucky Fellowship of Christian Athletes. During that time we have been serving at EKU and covered Madison County, Estill, Powell, Clark, Montgomery, Garrard, and my home county Lee County. We have also been to several other counties to help get FCA huddles launched. Now, I am beginning the process of becoming an Area Director for this area which is exciting because it means things like getting together an area advisory board to help support the ministry here prayerfully, financially, and hands on. Also, we hope to begin recruiting new staff to come help us to not only reach more school, coaches, and athletes for Christ, but also to be able to go deeper with those we are already serving.
It’s a very exciting time for the ministry with FCA here in our area and we want to share more about it with you. On October 17th we are holding our First Ever FCA Power Lunch at First Southern National Bank here in Richmond, KY. Not only will we have some great food from Chick-Fil-A but we are going to be sharing about what God is doing in the FCA ministry here in Madison and surrounding counties. If you are interested in finding out more about how you can partner with FCA and our family please contact us today about attending our first ever Power Lunch! We would love to have you join us! As always, thank you so much for your continued prayers and support!
It’s that time of year again where we are gearing up for our annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser for the Lee County Recreational Center. Due to a variety of scheduling issues this year’s Tournament has been pushed back to June 18th. This will me my (Andy) last year running this event and I would love to have you come join us for a fun day of Golf and great food! Hope to see you there!
Greetings from Beattyville. As we get ready to enter the month of May lots of things are going on here that we wanted to bring you up to date on.
Things get busy this weekend with our annual Golf Scramble Fundraiser for the Lee County Recreational Center. This is by far the biggest fundraiser that we do each year. Please be praying this week for great weather and a great turn out for this event. Also, if you are in the area please come out and join us, even if you don’t golf. We will have plenty of hamburgers, hotdogs, and polish sausages at the Sag Hollow Golf Course in Booneville, KY from noon to 2pm on Saturday, May 9.
Our next big thing this month comes on Saturday, May 16, from 6pm to 10 pm. We are having a Pre-Teen Lock-In for students finishing 3rd Grade through finishing 6th Grade. At this event the students will get to do all the fun things our teens do at a typical all night lock-in, but only stay 4 hours. Please pray for me (Andy) as I will be sharing a devotion with the students. Pray that I will clearly communicate to them how much God loves them and pray that many students will come and hear about Christ.
At the end of the month on May 29 we are having our annual End of the School Year Teen-Lock-In for students finishing 7th Grade through students graduating high school. At this event Andy’s dad, William Owens, will be giving the devotional to the students. Please pray for him as he prepares and that this outreach will reach many students for Christ. Also, with it being the Friday before high school graduation our students will have many options for parties and places to be where they could get into a lot of trouble. Please pray that they will choose to join us instead.
Throughout May many other things are going on as well. We are wrapping up the end of the school year with our FCA Huddles at the high school and the middle school. Several of our students that we have had in FCA since their 6th grade year are graduating this year and so it’s a bit sad and exciting for us at the same time. Pray that they will stay strong in their relationship with Christ and that they would seek Him in all their future plans. Also be praying for us as we are working with a new group of students to be on our leadership team next year and to go to FCA Leadership Camp with us this summer. We have lots of fundraising to do and this camp will be a great experience for our students.
At the Lee County Rec Center we are wrapping up our Fall/Winter bowling leagues and getting ready to start our summer bowling leagues. In the summer things slow down usually at the Rec Center and so we really need a solid turnout for these summer leagues.
In family news, we have also been very busy. Maeven spent two nights a week in April taking swimming lessons and is a little fish who can’t wait for the camp pool to open in the next few weeks. Judah is progressing with his speech which is an answer to prayer. However, on May 11, we are taking him to Shriner’s Hospital in Lexington, KY to get his feet checked out. In April, Judah had some x-rays that showed he has some curvature in the bones in his feet. We are not sure what this means, whether he will have to wear corrective foot wear, or whether or not he will just grow out of it. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for Judah.
Erin is enjoying being able to get the kids outside to play more and has been working with our dogs as we prepare for two litters of puppies arriving in June. She is much improved in her health since last year, but still has days where her fibromyalgia flairs up and causes her severe discomfort. Pray that those days will be few and far between. I (Andy) have been enjoying being able to get out and do some yard work and do some grilling.
As always, thank you so much for your continued prayers for our family. We are entering another busy season and are so thankful for your partnership and encouragement!
The camp season is in full swing and the busyness of summer is here too. Since our last ministry update much has happened. On June 13th we held our first ever Auction Fundraiser for the Lee County Recreational Center. So many people were generous in their donation of gifts and auction items and so many were generous in their participation of the auction. God really blessed this fundraiser and well over $2,300 was raised to help the Rec Center. We are truly thankful for the way God blessed this fundraiser!
There was no rest time from this busy event as the very next night we held a Pre-Teen Cosmic Party for the elementary age students in our community. It’s very much like a lock-in outreach but only lasts four hours rather than all night. We had a smaller turn out of only 19 kids, but I (Andy) was able to share the Gospel with them and really got to interact and build relationships with many of the kids.
On Monday last week, we had the opportunity to help bring students to Youth Haven Bible Camp’s Teen Camp. Over 136 teens attend camp at YHBC. We were excited as several of our FCA students participated in the camp and many decisions were made for Christ!
This week we are gearing up to head out on Thursday morning for FCA Leadership Camp. All 8 of our students were able to raise enough funds to go to camp and have been very dedicated in Bible studies and leadership prep as we prepared to go to camp. Please join us in praying for safety as we travel to and from Leadership Camp. Pray for our students that God will use this week of training to prepare them to impact their school’s for Christ and possibly even that this week will be used by God to call them on to Bible College and full time ministry.
We would also like you to continue to pray for the Air Conditioning situation a the Rec Center. We desperately need our AC fixed as the warm weather is really taking a toll on the amount of bowlers we have and even some of our groups that we normally get in. We know that we serve a God who is all powerful and can make sure this problem gets fixed. Please join us in praying it will be soon!
Maeven and Judah have been loving their summer so far. They have participated in “Cubs Camp,” YHBC’s day camp for kids who are too young for the regular weeks of camp. Both have enjoyed playing with other kids in the community, swimming, riding horses, and hearing Bible lessons. Maeven was also able to participate this past week in her first VBS at our church. She was so excited to share with us how she learned that Jesus is alive at VBS!
As always thank you so very much for your prayers and support!!!
Recovering……very….very…very…slowly. That’s how my body (Andy) feels at the moment. Last Friday night we held our annual End of the School Year Teen Lock-In Outreach at the Lee County Recreational Center. Over 128 local teens joined us for a great night. I had the privilege of sharing the devotion at this year’s lock-in with our teens. Through the story of the Prodigal Son I shared wit the teens about how no matter what they have done they are valuable to God and He wants to have a personal relationship with them. After the devotion, I had the opportunity to speak with one of our students. While he didn’t make a decision, God was really working in his heart and mind. Please join me in praying that we will have a chance to talk more again soon!
This week things are very busy once again as we have two major events planned. On Friday night we are having an auction fundraiser to help raise funds for the Rec Center. We have had many items donated from local businesses and individuals in our community that we will be auctioning off as well as having a cookout! If you are interested in donating something for the auction we would greatly appreciate it. Also, we would love for you to attend. Check out the attached flyer for more info!
On Saturday night, we are having a smaller scale lock-in from 5pm-9pm for elementary age kids. I (Andy) will once again be giving a devotion, so please pray for me as I prepare and pray that our students will be receptive to God’s Word! Also, we are in need of chaperones to come help us with this outreach!
Our kids are doing great. They have been busy enjoying the summer weather and playing with puppies. Both of the kids have been able to spend time at the Rec Center lately and have loved socializing with all the students and bowlers that have been there.
As always, thank you so much for your continued prayers and support. Also, below is a video of my devotional from the End of School Teen Lock-In if you would like to watch.
Greetings from the Owens Family. Since our last update much has been happening and not happening!
Last week we wrapped up our After School Jr. Bowling League for the year. We had an awards ceremony where all the kids received various awards for their participation and accomplishments throughout the year. I (Andy) was able to talk to the kids and share with them about how much Jesus loved them and also to talk with them about us helping to find them a local church if they aren’t attending one. Pray with us that seeds planted this school year will lead to these students putting their faith in Christ!
For the past few weeks we have been working gathering donations and planning our annual Lee County Recreational Center Golf Scramble. Unfortunately, this past weekend we had so much rain that we had to postpone the scramble until May 31st. Please pray that this postponement, will turn out to be a blessing where we can have more participation and raise more funds that are much needed for the Recreational Center!
This past week, I began working on some grants to help raise funds for the some upcoming programs that we hope to begin this fall at the Rec Center. To be honest sometimes I feel like I am in a little over my head when it comes to grant writing. That being said, God blessed and I was actually able finish one grant this week and submit it. Please pray that God will continue to lead us to grant foundations that will help further the ministry here and also that He will continue to give me the perseverance to write the grants correctly!
We have also began working with our FCA Leadership team on a weekly Bible study. We are currently doing the “Not a Fan” study for teens. So far we have really enjoyed going deeper with our teens and challenging them to take a deeper look at their relationship with Christ. Are they fans of Christ or true followers? Please pray that they will grow in their faith and pray for Erin and I as week seek to disciple them.
Our family is doing well and Maeven and Judah are really enjoying the warm weather. They have already enjoyed several trips to play in the creek at Natural Bridge State Park and love making a water slide on their swing set. Erin is continuing to do well and making great improvements in her health since going gluten free.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support of our family!
