Not a lot new has happened this past week to report since last week’s update. However, this week at church we had our annual Kid’s Sunday where the children in the church help with songs, prayer, taking the offering and much more. After church there were hot dogs, kool-aid and inflatable slides and bounce houses for the kids. During the service though, Maeven helped sing with a couple different groups of the students. We were able to video her and thought we would share these videos with you! Enjoy our sweet girl praising God!
Maeven participating in the Woolly Worm Festival Pet Show
Greetings from Beattyville, where we are in the midst of the big annual Woolly Worm Festival! It’s been a fun weekend for us as Maeven participated in her first ever Pet Show with her dog Lolo. She did great and little brother Judah was there to cheer her on!
The past couple of weeks since our last post have been very busy and exciting. Last weekend our family went to Chicago to attend a Missions Summit at Bethel Community Church. This is the church where Andy attended when he was studying and working at Moody Bible Institute. We were blessed to be able to spend time with great friends at Bethel and to share about the various ministries we are involved in with KMM. The kids also had a blast seeing the city and making new friends!

Back at the Rec Center we are busy gearing up for our annual Fall Teen Lock-In that takes place this coming Friday, October 31st. We are expecting around 200 teens to come out and join us for this outreach. Please pray that God would begin working in the hearts of ours students now and give our speaker wisdom as he prepares his message for the teens. And very important, please pray that we have plenty of volunteer chaperones!
Tomorrow morning we have our monthly KMM staff meeting and one of the things we have to do each month is share a praise and prayer list with our fellow staff members. We wanted to share our praise and prayer for this month with you so that you can know how to pray for us specifically in the next few days. As always thank you for your continued prayers and support!!!
- For the opportunity to go to Chicago and participate in Bethel Community Church’s annual Missions Summit.
- That we were able to visit with many friends while in Chicago.
- For all the students who are going to FCA’s Weekend of Champions with us.
- Judah did not have to receive any speech therapy and his vocabulary is growing!
- For safety traveling over the next couple of months
- For plenty of volunteers to help with our upcoming teen lock-ins at the Rec Center
- That our FCA student who attend Weekend of Champions will be challenged to grow in their walk with Christ and there maybe some students who attend who are unsaved, so pray they will accept Christ as their Lord and Savior!
- For Maeven who has been having some anxiety lately.

Greetings from the land of the Big Blue Nation! We are all excited here as we get to cheer on our Wildcats in tonight’s basketball national championship game. Erin and I have a group of our students who we hope to take to FCA Leadership camp coming over tonight to plan camp registration fundraisers and to cheer on our team! While we would never ask you to pray for UK, we do ask you to be praying for these students as we seek to disciple them and to raise the funds necessary to take them to FCA Leadership Camp this summer!
Since our last post we have had lots of things going on here. Our bowling leagues have been super busy and weather has finally been cooperating enough that people have been coming back out. Finally being able to have back to back weeks in our Jr. Bowling League has led to more students coming back out which means more that we can interact with and share the love of Jesus with.
In our FCA Huddles we have been sharing with the students the importance of being a servant and how Christ came as a servant. Getting the chance to go through Phillipians with our students and talk about how Christ emptied Himself of His Glory in order to come and be a servant and die for our sins and rise again has been a huge blessing to us. It has allowed us to go a little bit deeper with our students and we are seeing growth in their lives as we do so!
Erin was finally able to have the March monthly meeting of “The Well!” Several mothers came out including some new faces. It was a huge encouragement to Erin as these women opened up and shared honestly about the issues that were going on in their lives and were able to encourage and pray with and for one another. Please pray that these women will keep coming!
Our family is doing well and the kids have been keeping us busy. Between watching Frozen over and over and listening to both kids sings songs from the movie, Erin and I have been thoroughly entertained. Last week for the first time the kids were able to experience Chuck E. Cheese’s. Judah loved riding the mechanical horse and Maeven squirting the water gun games. They have truly been a joy to us and we love seeing them grow each day!
As always thank you so much for your prayers and support!
1. Pray for our FCA Leadership Team as we begin to raise funds for Leadership Camp.
2. Pray for our teen Sunday School Class as we start teaching a section on defending your faith this weekend.
3. Pray for upcoming fundraisers for the Rec Center!
This year Maeven was able to participate in her first ever Christmas play at our church Emmanuel Baptist. We are very proud that our little “Christmas Cow” did well and stayed on stage during the entire performance. Here is the very amateur video Daddy took of her if you would like to see our “Christmas Cow” in action!
At the Rec Center we are gearing up for our winter bowling leagues to begin during the first week of September. We are going to be having leagues for men and women, old and young, basically everyone in our community. The bowling leagues give us a great opportunity to build relationships with bowlers, their families and friends which hopefully leads to opportunities to share the Gospel and connect them with local churches and Bible studies. Below are our flyers for our adult and youth bowling leagues and I would like to ask you to please pray for each of these leagues. Pray that many people would come out and participate and that as a result many will choose to follow Christ!
With summer kicking into high gear, I have once again fallen behind on our updates and would like to apologize to all of you. Over the past few weeks we have been working at the Rec Center and doing some support raising as well. Last weekend we were in Ohio sharing with a church about our role in the ministry of KMM and how they could partner with us. We really had a great time getting to fellowship and meet some new people and hope to see more of them in the future.
This past week, Youth Haven Bible Camp had their first week of summer camp with their Annual Teen Camp. Because so many of the KMM staff have to be at camp we are pretty much at the Rec Center during the summer. Maeven and Judah still loved going up to camp in the evening though to get snow cones and even going out their this weekend after the campers left to enjoy some family time in the pool!
Please be praying for us at the Rec Center as we have had all kinds of maintenance problems this summer. Our main air conditioning system at the center has been down making for some very hot days. We are in the process of getting the machines fixed and working with the electric company to stop the power surges that keep messing with the AC system. In the midst of this heat the compressor on our walk-in freezer went down causing us to loose some of our food supply and have yet another problem to fix. Please be praying that we can get all these problems fixed and that the money to do so will come in to pay for these repairs and replacements.
This is also our big week that we head to Campbellsville University with our FCA Leadership team for another week of FCA Leadership Camp. Please keep us in your prayers for safety as we travel, that God will use this week to encourage and equip Erin and I, and that we will see our students grow in their walks with Christ and go home ready to change their schools for Christ.
As always thank you so much for your continued support and prayers!
This week past week was spent doing lots of student ministry. On Monday we had our weekly after school jr. bowling league at the Rec. Center. Around 20 elementary age students joined us for a couple of hours of bowling and food. It was good to interact with them and encourage them. One of the little boys even approached one of our teenage helpers to find out about getting a ride to church!
On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we were at both the Lee County High and Middle Schools for our weekly FCA Huddles. This week we watched a video of former NFL coach Tony Dungy sharing with the students about what success truly is and that is putting Christ first in everything. After school on Thursday we also held our weekly after school Bible study where we talked with the students about continuing to develop standards in their lives to help them be able to stand up to whatever pressure they may face and to impact their fellow students for Christ.
Once a month we are blessed to be able to help participate in LCHS’ Club Day. During Club day we do a morning and an afternoon FCA club where we can interact with the students. For this month’s club day I was able to show the students a video devotional by Matthew West about how their lives are stories and that God is author. When we let the author have control we can have peace in our lives, but when we try to write how our stories should go their is always disappointment. We tried to encourage the students to fully surrender their stories (lives) to Christ!
The Owens Family celebrating Dad’s award!
On Saturday morning, Erin and I went with my sister Amanda to Louisville where we joined my mom and dad at the Kentucky School Board Association conference. At their lunch the KSBA awarded my dad, William Owens, with their State School Board Member of the Year Award. With over 22 years of serving on the school board that have not been easy and knowing many of the frustrations and long days that he has served, it was awesome to see Dad get this award. We are very proud of him!
This morning Erin and I had a busy morning of working with the kids at our church. During the Sunday School hour we started our first Sunday as teachers for the Teen Sunday School Class. As always its interesting getting started as new teachers and sometimes getting the students to talk to you is like pulling teeth. However, by the end of the class we got a tiny bit out of them, and hopefully we can build some relationships with the students at EBC and help them grow in their walk with Christ.
After the teen class was over we had our monthly day in the toddler class for Children’s church. Whereas the teens wouldn’t move or speak, that’s all the toddlers did! However we survived ad Maeven like having her Momma and Daddy in class with her!
This week looks to be another fast paced week of ministry! Pray for energy and guidance as we share the love of Jesus. Please pray for opportunities to share Christ and that we will recognize them! We pray that you have a great week and share the love of Jesus to all you come in contact with as well!
