Greetings from Beattyville, where Erin and I are currently celebrating our 7th Wedding Anniversary! And how do we celebrate such a joyous occasion? Well as the true romantics we are, we are staying in with two sick kiddos. Even though we are stuck inside we are so thankful for the seven wonderful years of marriage and that we have two great kiddos to take care of on sick days!
Since our last update, much has been going on. I (Andy) wrapped up another season of helping coach our high school bowling team. While I don’t know that I impart much bowling wisdom, I try to be there to be as an example and encourager to the students. I strive to help teach sportsmanship, point students to Christ, and just be there for whatever they may need. Our students did well in the regional tournament and now we are done for the season. Pray that they will still come to the Rec Center in the off season where we can continue to work with them.
During the Super Bowl last week, we had an FCA Super Bowl outreach party at our house. We had students over for a fun night of food, laughing at commercials, and watching the big game. Most importantly, we stopped the tv at halftime and spent some time in God’s Word talking about what a devoted follower of Christ looks like.
Along the same theme as our Super Bowl Party outreach, I (Andy) have been leading a study of the book “Not A Fan”at Bear Track Bible Church on Wednesday nights. It’s been great to talk with the church about being a fan of Christ vs. being a true follower of Christ. We still have two more weeks of the study to go, so please be praying for us!
Maeven and Judah have been doing well. This past week they had Valentine’s parties in their pre-school classes and even got to attend the birthday party of a friend from church. Maeven has been doing great with learning to write her name, and with the help of her Momma, made a sign for our front door to tell people about Jesus. Judah is speaking more and better each week and still is passionate about his love for animals. He can’t wait for it to be warm enough to go to the zoo again. Erin has been doing well, but has had some fibromyalgia flair ups lately too. Please pray that this won’t hold her back from doing all she wants and needs to do.
Thank you all so much for your continued prayers and support. We have much coming up in the next few weeks that we will keep you posted on. God is doing some great things and we can’t wait to be able to share again with you!
Greetings from the Owens Family. Since our last update much has been happening and not happening!
Last week we wrapped up our After School Jr. Bowling League for the year. We had an awards ceremony where all the kids received various awards for their participation and accomplishments throughout the year. I (Andy) was able to talk to the kids and share with them about how much Jesus loved them and also to talk with them about us helping to find them a local church if they aren’t attending one. Pray with us that seeds planted this school year will lead to these students putting their faith in Christ!
For the past few weeks we have been working gathering donations and planning our annual Lee County Recreational Center Golf Scramble. Unfortunately, this past weekend we had so much rain that we had to postpone the scramble until May 31st. Please pray that this postponement, will turn out to be a blessing where we can have more participation and raise more funds that are much needed for the Recreational Center!
This past week, I began working on some grants to help raise funds for the some upcoming programs that we hope to begin this fall at the Rec Center. To be honest sometimes I feel like I am in a little over my head when it comes to grant writing. That being said, God blessed and I was actually able finish one grant this week and submit it. Please pray that God will continue to lead us to grant foundations that will help further the ministry here and also that He will continue to give me the perseverance to write the grants correctly!
We have also began working with our FCA Leadership team on a weekly Bible study. We are currently doing the “Not a Fan” study for teens. So far we have really enjoyed going deeper with our teens and challenging them to take a deeper look at their relationship with Christ. Are they fans of Christ or true followers? Please pray that they will grow in their faith and pray for Erin and I as week seek to disciple them.
Our family is doing well and Maeven and Judah are really enjoying the warm weather. They have already enjoyed several trips to play in the creek at Natural Bridge State Park and love making a water slide on their swing set. Erin is continuing to do well and making great improvements in her health since going gluten free.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support of our family!
On Monday, we had our After School Jr. Bowling League outreach at the Rec Center. 19 students joined us this week and we had a great time. I (Andy) had the pleasure of working with 5 grade school boys as they bowled. It was fun getting to know them and helping them stay focused enough to complete their bowling games. We are praying that the students who missed last week will come back again this week and that we will be able to share Jesus with them.
Our FCA Huddles were back in full force this week. In both the middle school and high school we were able to share with our students the importance of meditating on the scripture both day and night. Our main passage was Psalm 1 and we had some really good feedback from our students . Unfortunately this week our FCA after school Bible study on Thursday none of our students came. With this being the our first attempt to have a Bible study this semester, most of our students had forgotten. Please join us in praying that our students will come back this week!
Maeven and Judah have been enjoying being back home and playing with their church friends and friends that Erin babysits. On Friday, they really enjoyed going to the new park in Beattyville and riding all the slides. Then on Saturday, we were all blessed to go celebrate Erin’s Mom’s birthday.
In the next week, we have lots going on in our various ministries. On Monday night, Erin and the KMM ladies will be hosting their first meeting of “The Well” at Youth Haven for local mothers and caretakers of young children. We have two FCA huddles and our After School Bible study this week. And then on Saturday night we have our first Pre-Teen Lock-In Outreach at the Rec Center where 3rd-6th grade students get a 4 hour mini lock in outreach!
As you begin your week please pray with us for the following things!
1. Pray for Erin as she prepares for and speaks to local women at “The Well.”
2. Pray that students will come back to our FCA Bible study and huddles after being off for so long because of bad weather.
3. Pray for students to come out to our Pre-Teen Lock-In Outreach next Saturday night and that they will make decisions to follow Christ!!!
At the Rec Center we are gearing up for our winter bowling leagues to begin during the first week of September. We are going to be having leagues for men and women, old and young, basically everyone in our community. The bowling leagues give us a great opportunity to build relationships with bowlers, their families and friends which hopefully leads to opportunities to share the Gospel and connect them with local churches and Bible studies. Below are our flyers for our adult and youth bowling leagues and I would like to ask you to please pray for each of these leagues. Pray that many people would come out and participate and that as a result many will choose to follow Christ!
